Historic Championship Trail and Indy 500 cars in on-track exhibitions have been popular first at CART then IRL and now IndyCar race weekends on ovals since the first were organized by The Historic Champ/Indy Car Association beginning in 1997 through about 2014. Other groups have organized exhibitions since. On-track exhibitions have been part of the Indy 500 week organized by the Indianapolis Motor Speedway Museum since 1998.
